The Paxos Music Festival started in 1986 on the initiative of John Gough, an Englishman and friend of Paxos. Its aim was twofold: to support Greek and foreign award-winning music students in studying works from a wide range of chamber music and presenting their work to the Paxos audience, and to familiarise the local population with a variety of quality music and to encourage young Paxinians to become more actively involved in all kinds of music. From 1986 until his death in 2006, Gough continuously organised and financed the Paxos Festival and for this purpose he had founded the Paxos Festival Trust Ltd in 1987 in England. After his death his work was continued by his friend Nicholas Thompson. The Paxos Festival is an institution for the cultural and tourist life of Paxos, an active player in the local community and an important ally in the economic life of Paxos. We have created a comprehensive website where one can find material about the current season's festival, information about the events and artists, material about previous festivals, possibility to buy tickets online.
